I know, I know, the Canon 85mm f/1.8 is probably the more sensible choice, being smaller, lighter, faster-focusing, a quarter of the price and probably just as sharp, but my head was overruled by my want for this beauty with its enormous aperture, super quality (even fully wide open) and, of course, its little red ring.
The lens is worth its weight in gold when it comes to isolating individuals in a scene, as demonstrated by this candid shot of a wedding guest:
